August 5, 1967: Smog

Diary entry for August 5, 1967:
We took a drive to ocean today. We found Marineland but will save going in for another time. The smog was bad. We got a headache and our eyes burned. The drive around ocean was beautiful. Many pretty homes.

Ok, now we're getting out and about some more. Marineland of the Pacific was sort of a precursor to SeaWorld that opened in 1954. It closed in 1987 after it was purchased by the owners of SeaWorld who moved the majority of the animals in the middle of the night and filled the drains with concrete.

That's too bad about the smog. Sounds like it was more than just a little hazy if it made their eyes burn.
