August 6, 1967: Berries

Diary entry for August 6, 1967:
Saw Knott's Berry Farm. David Wayne and I rode the train. They had a "holdup" with real "bandits." David Wayne loved it. Saw old school, fire engines, and hearses. Dave bought David Wayne a souvenir gold coin. Alligator Farm is right across street and Disneyland is not far. We plan to go back because it is very cheap. Wonderful day!

Another day of getting out and about doing touristy stuff. We also have our first mention of Disneyland and the Alligator Farm, both of which we will visit later on.

I know we made at least one more trip to Knott's Berry Farm, possibly several, since the photo album has several pictures taken there and the scrapbook of mementos has many items as well. (I don't remember the gold coin at all, so I must have lost that before we moved back to Texas.) Since this is the first mention of Knott's Berry Farm I'll just show one item in this blog post. Here are what may very well be mine and Mom's train tickets from this visit. They are the only train tickets among the Knott's Berry Farm memorabilia, and there is one adult ticket and one child ticket. Note that both were punched with a "1" by the conductor. Be sure to read the entire ticket. "No gun play in lounge cars."

My best guess as to why my dad did not ride the train with us is that he opted to spend his 50 cents ($3.66 in today's money) on a beer or two.
